STORY 1

R: We start with a story from Las Vegas. O.J. Simpson's standoff with men he accused of stealing his memorabilia begins with the ex-NFL star demanding, "Don't let nobody out this room. ... Think you can steal my (expletive) and sell it?"

Simpson was arrested yesterday and booked at a county jail on charges connected with what police described as a robbery at a Las Vegas hotel.

In an audiotape released today, Simpson is heard shouting questions while other men shout orders to the men in the room.

Simpson said the dispute was merely a confrontation with no guns. He said autographed sports collectibles, his Hall of Fame certificate, and video from his first wedding were all his, and that they were stolen from him and were about to be fenced by unethical collectors.

After being whisked away in handcuffs, Simpson was booked Sunday night on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary with a firearm, police said.

The district attorney said he expected Simpson to ultimately be charged with seven felonies and one gross misdemeanor.

If convicted of the booking charges, Simpson would face up to 30 years in state prison on each robbery count alone.

Cal State Fullerton celebrated its fiftieth Anniversary this weekend. Kicking off the event on Friday was Concert Under the Stars. The two-hour show drew in 5,000 people and featured the musical talents of alumnus and opera singer Rodney Gilfry among other performers.

P: On Saturday, Cal State Fullerton had a campus-wide open house and birthday party.

NAT – “Happy Birthday Cal State Fullerton…” [[FADE OUT]]

Dr. Milton Gordon has been the university president for almost twenty years and praises all of the accomplishments.

NAT – “If you combine…to be a part of the Cal State Fullerton family.”

One Titan Alum is Congressman Ed Royce, class of 1976.

NAT – “We are proud to be a Titan…over the last eighteen years.”

The event was a time for Titan Alumni to reflect on the campus and its achievements.

NAT – “I’m excited to be here…dude it’s been a long time.”

Saturday’s event also included three elephant races and plenty of activities for current students, staff, faculty, and future Titans. The fiftieth anniversary celebrations will continue throughout this year.

STORY 3

R: Among the celebration, more news from Cal State Fullerton. A ten percent tuition increase is on its way next fall, according to the Daily Titan newspaper. This is the sixth time in seven years that students should prepare for a bump in fees.

The California State budget was passed earlier this month and the state deficit left no choice but to put the burden on students.

ENTERTAINMENT

R: In entertainment news, the annual Emmy Awards were presented last night. Some of the top winners included HBO’s show, “The Sopranos.” It won an Emmy for outstanding drama series.

Other winners included NBC’s show, “Thirty Rock,” winning an Emmy for outstanding comedy series.

SPORTS

P: The Daily Titan newspaper has confirmed that Cal State Fullerton’s veteran baseball head Coach George Horton has accepted a coaching position with the University of Oregon Ducks, where he’ll be paid four hundred thousand dollars a year.

Horton spent eleven seasons with the Titans. Under his leadership, the baseball team won the national title in 2004.

WEATHER

R: Fullerton weather right now is 71 degrees and will reach a high of about 76 degrees today. Tomorrow temperatures will reach 78 degrees with a few clouds in the morning but mainly sunny in the afternoon.

GOODBYE

P: And that’s all for now. Stay tuned for our next report and whenever news breaks. I’m Peter Martinez.
